Freelance Graphic Designer

Hello, I’m Sally

I’m a graphic designer. I’m here to help organisations, companies and individuals present their information, products, services and ideas successfully.

Experience

Freelance Graphic Designer

I am a graphic designer with a wealth of experience, a BA(Hons) in Graphic Design & an MA in Landscape Architecture. I have over 15 years of design experience and have worked for hundreds of clients in that time.

Goldfinch Design is my company, and through it I focus on friendly, efficient and creative printed and digital work for individuals, charities, small businesses and organisations.

Based in Knaresborough, near Harrogate in North Yorkshire I create work for a varied range of clients, from individuals to charities to large organisations. I particularly enjoy a design challenge. Whether it’s creating a simple logo for a new business or laying out a lengthy report, I offer a range of ideas and will always work closely with clients to create an appropriate result. I enjoy researching projects and working with clients to create engaging and joyful work.

Stationery Designer

From 2010 until 2021, I worked as a stationery designer creating unique wedding and party invitations and stationery for a wide-range of interesting couples and individuals. I worked hard to create stationery perfectly suited to each client, drawing inspiration from their lives, their interests and their special event. I worked closely with a print company in Richmond to produce beautiful designs, printed on fine card stock, delivered on budget and on time.

Landscape Architecture

After gaining my MA in Landscape Architecture, I worked for the landscape consultants Gillespies and also the urban design and planning company Turley Associates, both based in Leeds. Throughout my time in these positions, I enjoyed the challenge of presenting complex information in an engaging and cohesive manner. Bringing a report together and finalising all the design details remains one of my favoured types of work.

Education

BA (hons) Graphic Design, University of Northumbria

My degree introduced me to the world of graphic design and the great people within it. Through the modules they offered, I learned photography, printmaking, layout design and much more. Along with a group of coursemates, I had a book we wrote and designed published by Ebury Press, who are owned by Random House. Following on from my degree, I worked in marketing positions for Bodyworlds at the Truman Brewery, the publisher Usborne and the upmarket estate agent Carter Jonas, all based in London.

MA Landscape Architecture, Leeds Metropolitan University

Following on from my work in Graphic Design, I relocated from London to Leeds to study Landscape Architecture. This allowed me to study people and place and was a fantastic experience. I worked as an assistant Landscape Architect and in an urban design department. Although I loved the Landscape Architecture course and everything I learned, I found I enjoyed the graphic design work within the jobs more than the landscape and urban design work, leading me to decide to establish myself as a freelance designer.

Let’s work together.
